Last month I wrote about integrity because it is something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. I’m in my 60s and for most of my life, and certainly in my career, having integrity was critical. It is such a large complex item that I thought I would delve into different aspects, starting at one that seems to have disappeared from society: open-mindedness.
People who are open-minded are eager to see the world from other’s perspective. Whether religious, cultural, or political difference, they are hungry to learn. Someone who is open-minded doesn’t shut down the view of others or punish them for seeing things from a different perspective. Those with integrity listen and try to understand and not judge. They respectfully present their own views, without exaggeration or hearsay, and don’t demand the other person see them as right.
The world isn’t black and white. By staying curious and receptive, those with integrity foster an environment of learning and growth, making them more adaptable and versatile in their interactions and decisions. It also helps people feel seen and valued.
Let’s be open-minded and celebrate the diversity in the world!
Be a light!
