The littlest things matter

It is the smallest things that can make the biggest difference. Do you return your grocery cart after you load everything into your car? I do, but I also park close to one of the return places even if I must walk further. It helps me get my steps in.

The other day, I was pushing my cart toward my car and a woman pulled into a handicap spot. Someone had left one of those carts that look like a race car right next to the spot. There was no way that woman was going to be able to open her car door without hitting it. So, I pushed my cart off to the side and moved it into the cart return. The woman’s eyes widened with shock, and she smiled and mouthed “thank you” as I grabbed my cart and continued down toward my car. A small thing that only took me a minute, helped someone and, frankly, made me feel great.

So next time you go to the grocery store, return your cart. Help out the mother who is trying to load groceries while holding a baby, say thank you to the checkout woman and smile at the other shoppers. You have no idea how such a small gesture can make someone’s day and bring a little light into the world.
